Nr. 17: The lighthouse
p2
I walked up the small steps to the door. Before I could even touch the door, it creaked open. I retreated down the stairs, my heart beating in my throat. When nothing happened, I ventured inside. It was dark and musty, and it smelled of fungus and rot. This was ridiculous. But what won't you do for love? Well, anyways, I turned on my flashlight. The yellow circle danced on the walls. I could hear creaking from upstairs. I shouted out when something scuttled near my left leg. "Only a rat", I said to calm myself. "Only a rat." The metal stairs spiraled upwards into the darkness. I stepped on the first step. Took a deep breath, then walked up two more. When nothing happened, I felt a little better. I started taking regular steps. Then I heard something. Big. Ahead. Breathing. I stood dead still and tried not to breath. My heart pounded so hard, I'ts a wonder it didn't burst. Something was breathing heavily, right ahead of me.
